Here’s the official press release by MINI about the MINI John Cooper Works World Championship 50 special edition (JCW WC50) that’s coming to the US. Only 50 are being shipped and motorigfile reported that all 50 have been spoken for. It’s a great looking car and congrats to all 50 people that bought them! Motor On!
MINI Confirms the John Cooper Works World Championship 50 Edition Will be Sold in the U.S.
Woodcliff Lake, NJ – April 14, 2010… In response to high dealer demand, MINI USA will offer a limited number of the MINI John Cooper Works World Championship 50 special edition vehicles in the US. 50 of the hand-built vehicles will be delivered to US dealers, beginning late spring / early summer.
The special edition model was first shown to the public during the 2009 MINI United Festival in Silverstone, England. The worldwide production run has been confirmed for just 250 vehicles.
Inspired and influenced by John Cooper’s son, Mike Cooper, the limited MINI special edition is a tribute to both the birth of the brand and John Cooper’s first Formula One title victory 50 years ago. Both were revolutionary and triumphant: in the summer of 1959 Alec Issigonis presented his concept for an all-new small car, with its transverse-mounted front four-cylinder engine, and space for four occupants plus luggage. That same year, sports car constructor John Cooper won his first Formula One World Championship title with Jack Brabham at the wheel.
Based on a MINI John Cooper Works Hardtop, the World Championship 50 vehicle is painted a special color called Connaught Green, harking back to the famous color of British race cars of the 1950s and 60s era. It is combined with the roof and bonnet stripes in Pepper White. The vehicle is then equipped with the John Cooper Works Aero Kit, gloss black versions of the 17” Challenge spoke wheels, custom numbered side scuttles, a unique Championship Red Lounge Leather interior and carbon fiber accents throughout. It also features special floormats with red stitching that matches the red stitching found on the shifter and parking brake boots. John Cooper Works’ signature adorns a special plaque that is affixed to the instrument panel trim.
MSRP for the MINI John Cooper Works World Champion 50 Edition will be $39,600; Destination and Handling costs are $700, for a total cost of $40,300.

MINI Cooper Clubman new Customization!

Below is the official press release from BMW about a revolutionary way to personalize your MINI Cooper Clubman.
MINI TAKES AUTOMOBILE PERSONALIZATION TO A NEW LEVEL.
- 01.04.2010
- Press Release
* Revolutionary new paint system allows quick, unlimited exterior color changes on the new MINI
* Now owners can change paint color to match their mood – in minutes and as often as they like
* A fast, simple route to infinite MINI customization options
* The ultimate in automobile personalization will become available on the MINI Clubman
Woodcliff Lake, NJ – April 1, 2010… MINI, a leader in the manufacturing of customized vehicles in volume, is set to take automobile personalization to a whole new level with a revolutionary paint system that will allow owners to change the exterior color of their vehicle as often as they change their mood.
The ground-breaking MINIMagic paint system, exclusively available on MINI Clubman, will give MINI owners the chance to completely change their MINI’s exterior color in only a few minutes and with just the effort required to apply a single coat of wax – a world first for an automotive manufacturer.
The MINIMagic paint system will be available with any of the Clubman’s stunning paint colors, starting this spring.
“The introduction of MINIMagic on the MINI Clubman will transform the way owners select the exterior colors on a new MINI, and offers even more options to personalize a MINI to individual taste,” said Jim McDowell, Vice President of MINI USA . “Gone are the days when our customers need to worry about whether they have made the right choice of paint color. With MINIMagic, if they change their mind altogether, or just want a brief transformation of their MINI for a few weeks, it can now be done as simply as changing a shirt or rinsing your hair from blonde to brunette!” he added.
The new, innovative range of MINIMagic paint finishes are first applied at the production facility in Oxford, United Kingdom, as the first stage in a two-part process. All it takes for the customer to activate an on-demand color change is a simple application of the second part of the process – a quick wipe over the painted surfaces with the patented MINIMagic paint polish. In minutes, the transformation – from Light Coffee to Cosmic Blue for example – can be completed.
The permanence of the color changes can be selected by the customer, with three different second-stage polishes available – one month, six months or permanent. If left alone, the one-month and six-month paint finishes eventually revert to the vehicle’s original paint color, a process that happens in just a few hours at the end of the chosen period.
The MINI Clubman is one of the most customizable vehicles on the market with over 500 exterior and interior color and trim combinations possible, and even the facility to change the interior ambient lighting to match a mood or an occasion. With each individual package and options, it will be possible for customers to literally build a one-in-a-million MINI Clubman.
Professor Lirpa Loof, Head of Exterior Aesthetics and Paint Finishes at MINI USA, said: “MINIMagic will bring a whole new meaning to the concept of car cleaning and restoration. As easily carried out as a wash and a wipe, our owners can have a ‘new’ MINI Clubman that is capable of matching any atmosphere or any occasion.”
The MINI Clubman, exhibiting some real ‘MINIMagic’, can be seen on the MINI display from April 1st during the New York Auto Show, held at the Jacob Javitz Center in New York City.

Below is the official press release of the Grand Opening of a new MINI Dealer in El Paso, TX. Welcome to the family! Motor On!

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – March 19, 2010… Yesterday, MINI USA and the El Paso community celebrated the MINI of El Paso Grand Opening, the 6th MINI dealership in Texas, and the only MINI dealer along Interstate 10 between Phoenix and San Antonio. The newest location fills a geographic gap in the brand’s dealer network, making MINI more readily available to new customers and offering additional convenience to several hundred MINI owners who already live in the area.
“Texas is a key market for the MINI brand, and we are expanding the dealer network by positioning new facilities in markets that have solid growth potential, like El Paso,” said Jim McDowell, Vice President MINI USA.
The MINI of El Paso dealership is located near the intersection of Montana and Airport Boulevard. The new MINI facility is ideally located for El Paso MINI owners who currently drive over six hours roundtrip to Albuquerque for the nearest for sales and service.
A total of 23 new jobs were added to the local economy when the dealership began operating, and the owner made use of an existing building, staying true to the brand’s values associated with MINIMALISM. Re-using an existing facility allowed the dealer to minimize the negative impact associated with building a brand new facility, save cost and re-energize a storefront.
The fully renovated facility where MINI of El Paso now operates was previously another manufacturer’s storefront. Positioned on 2.13 acres, the new MINI dealership covers 22,017 sq. ft., including a 3,200 sq. ft. showroom that displays seven MINI vehicles.
“The world is becoming more MINI every day, and consumer tastes are shifting decidedly to cars that offer tremendous value. The MINI brand is considered ageless, and its core traits are well-aligned with the demands of today’s customers,” said McDowell. “Our cars are not only fuel efficient, and offer great value, but they also provide a fun and dynamic motoring experience and are packed with personality.”
MINI of El Paso is owned by Earnhardt El Paso Motors, LLC; and the General Manager is J. Michael Cheatham. MINI is proud to welcome them to the MINI family of dealers.
The MINI of El Paso dealership is located at 6318 Montana Ave, El Paso, TX 79925.

MINI Countryman pre-order
Posted by Chris Ordon in BMW Mini, MINI info on 2010/03/11
I have a bit of news concerning the MINI Countryman. We all now by now that the Countryman (R60) won’t hit the US shores till the beginning of 2011, but that’s not stopping MINI dealers from taking names of interested people in the MINI on a list. As of today, I’m one of those people that gave Motor City MINI a deposit and in turn they put my name on a list, so when time comes to place an order on the Countryman, I’ll be one of the first to place an order on it. I’m really excited about this and can’t wait till the day I order my Countryman. Now all I have to do is figure out what color and what options to order. Once you’ll be able to build your own Countryman on miniusa.com website, most likely I’ll be on the site everyday trying to figure it out. So if you know you want a MINI Countryman and want to be one for the first to order one, contact your local MINI dealer and ask if they have a list going. I’ll be posting more info as it comes in. So it’s official, I’ll be getting a MINI Countryman next year.
Be sure to also check out my nxtMINI podcast I started, on there Andy and I will be talking about MINI’s and their competitors or the lack there of.. in the US at least. Till then, Motor On!

Below is the official press release from BMW on the grand opening of MINI of Ontario dealership. If you live in California, you should check them out. When I make a trip out to California, I will be stopping by. Motor On!
Woodcliff Lake, NJ – March 5, 2010… On Saturday, March 6, MINI USA and the Inland Empire community will celebrate the MINI of Ontario Grand Opening, the 15th MINI dealership in California, and the largest facility in Southern California. The newest location fills a geographic gap in the brand’s dealer network, making MINI more readily available to new customers and offering additional convenience to several thousand MINI owners who already live in the area. “California is a key market for the MINI brand, and we are expanding the dealer network by positioning new facilities in markets that have solid growth potential, like the Inland Empire,” said Jim McDowell, Vice President MINI USA. “In doing so, we are committed to maintaining the profitability of our existing dealers, and will add new facilities where it makes sense for the network as a whole, as well as the community.” The MINI of Ontario dealership is located at the intersection of four major highways (I-15, I-10, Highway 60 and I-215) which connect Los Angeles, Orange County and Palm Springs. The new MINI facility is ideally located for Inland Empire customers who currently drive two hours roundtrip to Monrovia or Irvine for sales and service. A total of 37 new jobs were added to the local economy when the dealership began operating, and the owner made use of an existing building, staying true to the brand’s values associated with MINIMALISM. Re-using an existing facility allowed the dealer to minimize the negative impact associated with building a brand new facility, save cost and re-energize a storefront. The fully renovated facility where MINI of Ontario now operates was previously a BMW Certified Pre-Owned dealership. Positioned on 2.13 acres, the new MINI dealership covers 22,017 sq. ft., including a 3,200 sq. ft. showroom that displays seven MINI vehicles. To ensure the best possible customer experience, the facility is equipped with a state-of-the-art sound system and big screen TVs throughout the showroom, service reception area and service drive. The service drive also has a built-in gas grill and air hockey table, offering customers real MINI hospitality during visits. To manage the work flow, Inland Empire MINI utilizes IMAC Apple computers and has 10 work stalls (with room for future expansion). “The world is becoming more MINI every day, and consumer tastes are shifting decidedly to cars that offer tremendous value. The MINI brand is considered ageless, and its core traits are well-aligned with the demands of today’s customers,” said McDowell. “Our cars are not only fuel efficient, and offer great value, but they also provide a fun and dynamic motoring experience and are packed with personality.” MINI of Ontario is owned by Pete Savage, who also owns Savage BMW in Ontario, California. He has been BMW dealer for 25 years, and is a seven-time winner of BMW’s Center of Excellence Award. MINI is proud to welcome him to the MINI family of dealers. The MINI of Ontario dealership is located at 1251 Auto Center Drive, Ontario, CA 91761. The Grand Opening celebration begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 6. Guests will enjoy great food, entertainment, prizes and raffles. Ontario Mayor, Paul Leon, will perform the ribbon cutting at 11 a.m. Other special guests will include Jim McDowell, Vice President of MINI USA; Robert Frisch, Vice President, BMW Group Western Region; as well as local celebrities. Media interviews are available. Please contact MINI Communications for scheduling. In the spirit of MINI’s giving back philosophy, MINI of Ontario has selected the Loma Linda Ronald McDonald House to receive a donation from the event. The mission of the Loma Linda Ronald McDonald House is to provide a “home away from home” for families of critically ill or injured children receiving medical treatment at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital and nearby facilities. In addition to this charitable effort, the team at MINI of Ontario works on a regular basis with other non-profit organizations, including: Automotive Youth Education System (AYES), Law Enforcement Organization of Ontario (LEO), Ontario Chamber of Commerce, Ontario Automobile Dealer Association, Rancho Cucamonga High School Band and the Inland Empire Chapter of Red Cross Blood Bank.
MINI Countryman official release
Posted by Chris Ordon in Mini Cooper, MINI info on 2010/01/20
Today MINI officially announced the MINI Countryman. Here’s a quote from their press release:
MINI is adding a fourth model to the family, opening up a new dimension
of that unmistakable MINI feeling. As a genuine Crossover, the MINI
Countryman bridges the gap between the classic concept of the MINI and
a modern Sports Activity Vehicle. Boasting enhanced opportunities in urban
mobility and beyond, the MINI Countryman offers that unique driving pleasure
so typical of MINI to new target groups requiring extra space and flexibility.
As the first model in the MINI range with four doors and a wide-opening
rear lid, the MINI Countryman provides even greater freedom of space
for truly versatile use, a slightly elevated seating position, and optimised
driving comfort. Full integration of the passengers within the vehicle creates
that driving experience so typical of MINI. And at the same time the MINI
Countryman maintains that go-kart feeling likewise so characteristic of MINI,
optional MINI ALL4 all-wheel drive offering an additional highlight for the
genuine connoisseur. In a nutshell, therefore, the MINI Countryman offers all
the characteristic features of the brand in terms of design, premium quality,
handling, efficiency and customisation in new, fascinating style.
It looks fantastic and I can’t wait to see it in person at the US dealer and test drive it of course. When that time comes, I’ll be definitely taking some pictures of the MINI Countryman. Till then, Motor On!
